Wordnet is a lexical database of words that are linked together by their semantic relationships. Apart from the gaol of providing accessibility to human users via a web browser, Wordnet can be used in automatic text analysis and artificial intelligence applications.
The
Kangleiwordnet is a web interface to a collection of 5 wordnets, viz. Manipuri Wordnet, Tangkhul Wordnet, Thadou Wordnet, Mao Wordnet and Kabui/Rongmei Wordnet. It is a product of the
Manipur Wordnet project taken up at IIIT Manipur under Core Research Grant(CRG) of SERB, Government of India. The project covers 5 major local languages of Manipur namely
Manipuri/Meeteilon,
Tangkhul,
Thadou,
Mao and
Rongmei/Kabui.
This application strife to bridge the lingusitic gap between several communities of Manipur, and also to be linked to the national and global languages.
The team collected a huge repository of linguistic data for each of these resource poor languages and developed individual wordnets with rich semanctic informations as Manipuri Wordnet, Tangkhul Wordnet, Thadou Wordnet, Mao Wordnet and Kabui/Rongmei Wordnet.
These wordnets are linked with each other with
Manipuri/Meeteilon as the root language, and
English as a secondary bridge language, thus acting as a multilingual dictionary for the common users.
The final product is made freely available for public use through this website.
This website currently supports five (5) local languages of Manipur, viz.
Manipuri/Meeteilon,
Tangkhul,
Thadou,
Mao and
Rongmei/Kabui.
The semantic data is a word searched for a particular language can be seen in other languages supported in the webapp. Also additional linguistic details of the words can be referred from the app. For ease of typing, a virtual keyboard is added for each of the languages added.
